Fernando Alonso isn't having much luck at the start of the 2025 season. It seems that his driving style is above the performance provided by his Aston Martin, a clear example of which occurred in the Monaco Grand Prix , where he was running sixth and had to retire due to an engine problem.
But the Asturian isn't discouraged or losing heart. He's confident the Newey effect will be felt this season, although he's aware that his year could be 2026, when there will be a regulation change and the British engineer will have had more time to incorporate improvements.
The Spanish driver has embraced his role as ambassador for the Circuit de Catalunya and spoke to the EFE news agency and Mundo Deportivo . Alonso was asked if he sees himself racing until 2027. “Well, I don't know if I'll race in 2027. At the moment, I only have a contract for 2026. I'll decide next year,” replied the Oviedo native.

Regarding the future of Aston Martin, the driver has been very cautious: “It's difficult to promise or say anything to the 'Alonso fans' right now, because we don't have any reliable data that can tell us whether or not we're on the right track. We're working on the 2026 car , but a bit without any reference to other cars; only what we see of ours. So, we have to trust our people, our facilities, our technicians . In Newey, as you say, and that's perhaps the greatest security. We don't have anything reliable, but we do have the best people building the car. That has to help, no matter what.”
